Teddy Bear Urns – Warm and Cuddly Comfort for Those Bereaved

September 7th, 2009

Ask anyone who have been bereaved what they miss most about their loved ones who passed away and they will invariably answer that they miss holding their loved ones in their arms.  Hugging someone not only brings comfort but also conveys love.  This is probably the reason why people who have been bereaved opt to buy teddy bear cremation urns to contain their loved ones’ ashes rather than regular urns.

What makes them choose teddy bear urns instead of regular cremation urns?  Teddy bears have always been associated with warmth and comfort.  With their loved ones’ remains contained in these stuffed toys, the ones left behind have the chance to continue holding them when they need comfort the most.

What Are Teddy Bear Urns?

When you look at teddy bear urns, you will see that they really are not any different from the regular teddy bear stuffed toys that you will see in any toy store.  They are made of cloth, are stuffed and padded to make them huggable, and are sewn with button eyes, ribbons and other accessories.  Some teddy bear urns also have detachable angel wings included in their design.

What makes teddy bear urns different from the regular stuffed toy is the fact that teddy bear urns contain pockets inside them where an actual piece of memorial jewelry is held.  This small keepsake urn would contain a small portion of the departed person’s ashes.  Thus, when a bereaved person hugs these teddy bear urns that contain his or her loved ones’ ashes, he or she is literally hugging the loved one once more.

Teddy Bear Urns Can Help with Coping

When you have lost someone precious to you, you may often find yourself wishing for another chance to embrace that person and tell that person that you love him or her.  But because that person has already passed away, it is impossible to embrace him or her again.

Teddy bear urns give you a chance to do this, even though you are only substituting the teddy bear for the real person.  Still, the fact that the ashes of the person you want to hug is inside the teddy bear, you are somehow assured of the presence of the person you are missing.

Teddy bear urns are known to be especially comforting to small children who have just lost a parent or pet. Pet urns are generally large and house the cremated remains of the entire animal. But there are several options and you can split up the remains to be kept in a teddy bear urn or scattered in a favorite place.

Teddy Bear Urn

Teddy bears are traditional forms of animal stuffed toy predominantly made to comfort children. Teddy bears, thus, connotes comfort, warmth, caring and affection. For this, since 2000, teddy bears gained resurgence in popularity, this time as urns. The purpose of Teddy Bear Urns is not only to comfort children, but they are also adult keepsakes. They became perfect huggable memorials by adults struggling with the terrible experience of loss and would like to keep the memory of a loved one or pet in a most unique way.

Teddy bear urns are a memorial which can hold some or all of the remains or special memento of a departed loved one or pet in a small bag tucked inside a zipper along its back seam. They can be made of a clothing or shirt, blanket, pillow case or any special remembrance of a loved one that can help keep that precious bond as long as they can. The name and dates can be embroidered in the teddy bear’s feet. Buttons from the loved one’s dress can be securely fastened as its eyes.

Teddy bear urns are the perfect urns for those looking for a huggable memorial urns which is more personal than the wooden, marble or any other urn made of hard material. It can be picked up hugged and held close to one’s heart every time one feels the pain and thinks of the departed. Indeed, it is most comforting that one can give caring even after they are gone.

Brief History of Teddy Bears

Teddy was the nickname of former US President Theodore Roosevelt where the name teddy bear came from. This is the story; Roosevelt was invited by Mississippi Governor Andrew H. Longino to a bear-hunting trip in Mississippi in November 1902. Several hunters competed and most of them shot something. After a long tedious chase with hounds, Roosevelt’s attendants, led by Holt Collier, cornered and tied an American Black Bear to a willow tree. They called Roosevelt and suggested that he shoot the bear. But Roosevelt refused, he deemed it unsportsmanlike. Instead he instructed his attendants that the bear be killed to put it out of misery. This became a topic of political cartoon by Clifford Berryman in the Washington Post on November 16, 1902. Later, Berryman’s cartoons made the bear smaller and cuter. Morris Michtom saw the drawing of Roosevelt and the bear cub and he was inspired to create a new toy. He sent the toy bear with the sign that read “Teddy’s bear” to Roosevelt and received permission to sell the bear toys. The toys were an immediate success and Michton founded the Ideal Novelty and Toy Co., which still exist today.

That was how teddy bears earned its popularity and became synonymous with compassion and warmth.

For this, teddy bear urns are intended to be comforting. Many families, would thus divide their loved one’s or pet’s ashes among them and purchase multiple teddy bear urns.

No one can ever be prepared for death. It will be every bit as sad and painful as one can imagine. But with the thought that the loved one has been given a home in a cozy, warm comfortable and beautiful place which can be held close to the heart with affection, things will surely become easier. Our urns for ashes are some of the most unique memorials available today. And teddy bear urns keep the memory “Forever in one’s heart”. Thank you for reading.
